Availability of Membership & Subscriptions Plug-in

Is there an update on when the 'Membership & Subscriptions Plug-in' will be available to install?  It still says 'Coming Soon' in the Plug-in Marketplace.  If it's in beta, can it be installed to preview the capabilities to determine if it will meet the needs of a subscription model?  We're trying to avoid using an option like Freshbooks.com to manage a subscription model within our workplace.
