Coding should not be changed during updates

We spent ages working with a developer on our CSS and HTML code for our platform. At the time there was no warning/caution to the fact that code may be interfered with when changes are made to the Arcadier platform. When the recent update occurred, all our code was changed and the website was unusable. We not only pay our developer a lot of money to make our site, we also pay a premium to be able to access the coding aspect of your templates. 

Will there be something done to reduce the impact on personal code during updates? Or at least an available update schedule so we know when these potential problems will occur?
