Lots of Feedback from a new user - I just set up my marketplace
Hi! I would like to provide feedback on my experience so far signing up and getting my marketplace set up and tested. I'm about 10 hours in. Note: Some of the issues are deal-breakers as labeled but hopefully I can contribute to helping solve them, since your business model is definitely the best I'd really like to be a part of the community.
PRE-SETUP:
- Very pleased with advertised functionality, and the features you get at amazingly competitive price points.
- Custom domain included at a low price point is definitely a major competitive advantage. So is unlimited users and storage(!!!).
- Basing the pricing levels essentially off transaction numbers is exactly right vs. arbitrarily restricting "basic" features.
- Thank you for being up front about your pricing. Others don't show you that until you've signed up for a trial.
SETUP / ADMIN PANEL:
- Pre-populating the ToS, Privacy Policy, and FAQ.... ROCKS! Thank you.
- Really annoying but not necessarily a deal breaker. Setting up the marketplace is extremely glitchy. Many changes that are made are confirmed with the green popup window but do not actually save:
-- I cannot reorder my categories. Confirms with green popup but reverts back immediately upon. *Working as of 1 Mar 18
-- Setting a custom domain name as the default took many tries to save on several different browsers despite the green popup. *Working fine as of 1 Apr 18
-- Uploading a new site logo took several tries before it took, and several browser cache clears to actually see it. *Working fine as of 1 Apr 18
- Having to email to change your site theme and your commission percentage is painful since you have to make those decisions before you tinker with the site. Waiting several extra days delaying your launch for this seems very unnecessary.
- External Links: An option to open in a new tab would be nice so it doesn't close the marketplace.
- Contact Us: Would be nice to hide the phone number if it is not relevant.
SELLING SETUP / LISTING ITEMS FOR SALE:
- Deal Breaker. When adding a new item, the "variable pricing" is totally broken. This needs dev inspection and overhaul ASAP. Values typed in reset often as you're working on it, and the "purchasable" sliders go back to not purchasable on its own. We had to give up on variable pricing since we can't get it to work. My sellers won't stick around with this issue... my niche needs this ability.
- Deal Breaker. The listing gets a "failed to update" red pop up error when trying to post a new listing with more than one image. Of course, after you've done all the work typing in everything. You have to edit and add in images one at a time. Found this out by trial and error with lots of frustration. My sellers definitely won't stick around if they can't smoothly list items for sale. *Working fine as of 1 Apr 18
- Image upload is good, but it needs tweaking to allow shrinking and centering images without having to manually add white space to an image file in an editing program.
PURCHASE PROCESS TESTS:
- Deal Breaker. Once it actually saves, selecting the particular "variable" often does nothing to the price. Only deleting and re-adding the item from the seller side solves this. My sellers won't stick around with this issue.
- Deal Breaker. User's shipping selection often does not save when adding the item to the cart. It pops up saying they need to choose a shipping option, but the popup has no options. Deleting from your cart and readding it does not fix this... only deleting and re-adding the item from the seller side temporarily fixes this problem. My sellers won't stick around with this issue. *Working fine as of 1 Apr 18
- Deal Breaker. Seller's unable to edit item titles, descriptions and price after posting. Often get the red "failed to update" popup when trying to save simple changes to a posted listing. Only way to fix this was to completely re-upload the listing. My sellers won't stick around with this. *Working as of 1 Mar 18
- "Select shipping option later" option should just go away, it only causes problems. You don't see this in any shopping cart on the internet... why here?
- Does the commission system really need to show the buyer the split payment with the fee they are paying to the marketplace? This seems unnecessary and a potential motivation for a buyer to reach out to a seller off the marketplace, and I don't like it.
Overall, I am not comfortable launching my marketplace until at least the deal breakers identified above are addressed. I'll be happy to provide any extra details or screenshots or whatever.
To me, I don't think these are "feature requests" per se, but I am happy to keep contributing if it is helpful. Thank you for taking a look!

Arcadier Support, can you respond to some of the issues C.Smith has raised? I have just discovered Arcadier (and some other marketplace creators). Upfront, it's always difficult to know what might be missing, or not possible with a solution like this. After reading C.Smith's very helpful evaluation and comments, I now feel worried about committing/wasting time and energy learning the software, which otherwise sounds fantastic.

I have been sending lots of details to Hesson via a support ticket, to include screen capture videos. I'll edit the above post when things appear to be reliably fixed.
Some more feedback:
Delivery Charges: The way the final price is displayed during checkout is very confusing. For example, a $3 item with $3 shipping no matter the quantity displays as this when I order 9 quantity:
Sub Total - USD $ 27.00Delivery Costs - USD $ 27.00Bulk Delivery Discount - USD -$ 24.00TOTAL - USD $ 30.00It's not really a bulk delivery discount... it's a delivery cost that the seller set up based on a base price and surcharge for each additional item. Can it please just say "Delivery Costs - USD $3" and have the calculations take place invisibly?Email Addresses and Outside links in listings: My sellers have put their email addresses and links to their other storefronts in their listing page. Please give us the ability to filter out email addresses and URLs in listings.1 -
Have they updated or provided an option to remove the delivery option for service and space rental marketplaces?

One more suggested improvement. On each listing, the description is cut short with the "see more" text to show the whole thing. However, the initial amount showing is much too small. It only shows somewhere between one and two lines when viewed on a desktop computer. Request that the default amount of text displayed be about 10x what it is now.

From a seller of mine: "Scrolling down inside the item listing causes the product image to zoom in, causing the bottom to be cut off, the image to get blurry, and overall just looks unprofessional. And with multiple images, scrolling through them all is clunky. It does not change to the next pic via a mouseover of the thumbnail, so you have to click it. Instead of just changing to that pic, it causes a 'light box' to happen where the background is greyed out and you scroll through images that way. Recommend getting rid of the light box and just have it change images when clicked."

Great see some of the glitches i've experienced being mentioned.
Did you have any trouble uploading a transparent logo? The system seems to revert back to a white background on the logo which obviously looks very tacky!

Not my logo, but one variation of my cover photo had transparent edges that turned into a different shade of off-white and were visible.

Update: I've been discussing several of these issues back and forth with support, and have been very impressed with the attention and apparent willingness to address the issues. Thanks to the team.

Found another huge one just now. Seller created a whole listing with tons of variants. Went to save the item, and the screen scrolled all the way to the top because she had not put in a quantity amount for each variant or made it unlimited. However, the screen has locked and will absolutely not scroll. If you drag the scroll bar it snaps right back to the top variant. Have to start the whole thing over as it is impossible to do anything.
